Dear Friends,

I trust you've had a summer full of family and friends, vacations and rest. This time of year is often a time to re-focus on the things we must do, and indeed, there is so much happening here at FCRW that one newsletter cannot contain it all!

The Friends hast recently mailed appeal letters to our membership. If you are connected to the Friends of the Cedar River Watershed only by this newsletter, please consider donating at this time. We only exist through the contribution of those who recognize the value of our work together. You may contribute online by clicking here! Does your company have a matching program? Please include them in your gift! We are encouraging our members to move to the next level of support or even purchase a membership for someone new in order to spread the word and support our vital water source. Thank you!

There are two upcoming events we'd like to share with you. First, our always-favorite Dinner With Friends at St. Clouds is scheduled for Tuesday, September 18th from 5:30 to 10 pm. St. Clouds has become one of Seattle's leading restaurants that truly gives back to its community. We are proud to partner with this excellent restaurant, and invite you to celebrate with us as we dine on some of the finest food in Seattle. A portion of the evening's revenue will be donated to the Friends, so make a night of it with a group of your favorite companions! Reservations are recommended.

Finally, we'd like to introduce you to a traveling art exhibit called "Cedar Salmon." Ten renowned artists have donated individual works of art--all made of cedar planks in the shape of salmon--to the Friends. These salmon will be housed at the Burke Museum and several other locations between now and December, and will be auctioned off during a three-month online auction on our website beginning next week. These salmon will act as ambassadors for their real-life brethren who are now swimming into Lake Washington on their final journey to their spawning grounds in the Cedar. We'll have more news on our homepage next week, so please check back.

From all of us here, thank you for being a part of something so fundamental and essential to our environment, our livelihoods, and our selves--simply put: water. We continue to grow little by little with the help of each person who joins the Friends.

Wishing you all the best,

Sue Rooney

Help Protect Your Watershed

Greater Seattle area residents enjoy some of the cleanest water in the world. Fish and other species like it too. The water coming from the Cedar River Watershed is uniquely pure because the land that collects and stores it is protected. It is one of only six watersheds in the country that supplies drinking water to a metropolitan area without requiring a major filtration system. The forest itself filters our water. You can help ensure this protection continues.

A Flowing River

You are lovely as a river

under tranquil skies--

there are imperfections

but a music overlays them--

telling by how dark a bed

the current moves

to what sea that shines

and ripples in my thought

-William Carlos Williams
